What Christmas Light Design Actually Involves

Design is the part of holiday lighting that happens before anyone touches a ladder, and it is the part that decides whether the finished display looks planned or accumulated. Every property we light across Kansas City, Olathe, Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Shawnee, Prairie Village, Mission Hills, and surrounding areas starts here.

From conventional lights to garland, wreaths, and RGB pixel mapped trees, we have the knowledge and expertise to take care of all of your holiday visions. We use state of the art LED lighting and innovative designs to create an illuminated display that your neighbors will love too. What that means in practice is that we look at your roofline, your landscaping, your architecture, and the sightlines from the street, then build a plan around what your property actually has rather than fitting it to a standard package.

Design Comes With Your Free Estimate

You do not pay separately for design, and you do not commit to anything to see one. Get your free estimate today with absolutely no inflated upfront costs. We believe in transparency and honest pricing, so there are no hidden fees or surprises.

You see the plan and the price together, and you approve both before anything is ordered or installed. If the display you want and the budget you have do not line up yet, this is where you find that out, and we will tell you honestly rather than quoting low and cutting corners later.

Conventional Christmas Lights

The classic outline. Roofline, peaks, gables, and architectural edges lit in a consistent color scheme, which is what gives a house its shape after dark and what most people picture when they picture Christmas lights.

This is the foundation of the majority of our designs, and it is where design discipline shows up most visibly from the curb. Even spacing across a run, clean transitions at corners and peaks, and a color choice that suits the house rather than fighting it. Warm white on brick reads very differently from multicolor on siding, and which one is right depends on your property.

Garland, Wreaths, and Entry Details

Roofline lighting outlines the house. Garland and wreaths are what make the entry look finished rather than simply lit, and they work at a distance a roofline cannot, which is the few feet where guests actually arrive.

These get planned as part of the whole rather than added item by item, so the detail lands where it earns attention instead of everywhere at once.

Typically designed in at:

The front door, garage doors, and gable, using lit wreaths sized to the opening

Porch columns and railings, wrapped in garland

Door frames and window frames

Lamp posts and mailboxes

Trees wrapped in color changing lights at night

RGB Pixel Mapped Trees

Pixel mapping is the step beyond a fixed display. Every bulb is individually controlled, so instead of one static color, the lighting can shift between colors, run patterns, and change through the season.

It suits some properties and not others, and design is exactly where that gets decided. Pixel mapped trees want clear sightlines from the street and a property where the display is meant to be a feature rather than a backdrop. They are a larger investment than a conventional design, and a well designed conventional display will outperform a poorly planned pixel one every time. If pixel mapping is not right for your property, we will say so.

The Difference Design Makes in December

A display that was designed and a display that was assembled look similar on the first night and nothing alike by the middle of the month.

Design accounts for power before install day, so a full display runs on the circuits your property actually has rather than tripping a breaker every evening. It accounts for weather, so what goes up survives Kansas City wind and ice rather than sagging by week two. It accounts for access, so the parts that will need maintenance can be reached without dismantling half the display. And it accounts for next year, because a design on file means your display can be repeated or built on rather than started over.
